My client discovered that while skiing, she experienced foot pain and her balance was off on the outer edges of her feet. To address this issue, I had her perform a single leg stance test, which confirmed that both feet were supinating. Supination occurs when the inner line of the foot is not functioning properly.
Upon conducting Assessment, I found that the tibialis posterior (supinator) was overworking, while the psoas was underworking. I released the tension in the tibialis posterior and activated the psoas on each side separately. After retesting the single leg stance, she no longer experienced supination and pain.
However, she mentioned that her lower back, glutes, and inner thigh were sore. Further assessment revealed that the adductor longus, piriformis, and lumbar erectors were all overworking, while the psoas remained underworking. To address this, I released the tension in the adductor longus, piriformis, and lumbar erectors, and then activated the psoas on each side separately. By the end of the session, her thigh, glutes, and back felt much better, and she was ready to hit the slopes again.
